'The ties between Italy and El Salvador are solid and growing steadily. We share common interests in the economic and cultural spheres and we are attentive to the opportunities that could open up for our businesses during President Bukele's second term in office'. This was said by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli, at the end of his official mission to El Salvador.
In the capital, San Salvador, Silli co-chaired, together with Deputy Foreign Minister Adriana Mira, the third Session of the Political Dialogue Mechanism, the main forum for bilateral dialogue between Italy and El Salvador.
During the meeting with Deputy Minister Mira, topics relating to the state of bilateral relations were examined, including development cooperation projects, regional dynamics (with particular attention to the Central American integration process and the crises in Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Haiti), and some multilateral issues, such as the reform of the UN Security Council.
The undersecretary also stressed the importance of Italy's 'legal diplomacy' initiatives in the fight against organised crime and corruption, expressing the hope of El Salvador's high-level participation in the 12th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference in the autumn.
On the sidelines of the Political Dialogue, Silli had a constructive meeting with Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco. During his stay in San Salvador, he also met with leading government figures, including members of the technical staff of the Presidency of the Republic and the Minister of Infrastructure Romeo Herrera, to discuss opportunities for collaboration between Italian companies and key projects, such as the San Salvador LRT and the Pacific Train. Cultural and tourism cooperation issues were also explored with Culture Minister Raúl Castillo and Tourism Minister Morena Valdez. In addition, the undersecretary had a meeting with Public Building Minister Michelle Sol.
