On 9 April, the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat will host the screening of Alessandro Tonda's film 'Il Nibbio' (The Kite), a tribute to Nicola Calipari, a Sismi (Military Information and Security Service) executive killed in 2005 in Iraq in a friendly-fire incident during an intelligence operation to free journalist Giuliana Sgrena, kidnapped by a jihadist armed group in the post-Saddam chaos. The film stars Claudio Santamaria as Nicola Calipari, and Sonia Bergamasco and Anna Ferzetti as Giuliana Sgrena and Rosa Calipari respectively, and recounts the twenty-eight days leading up to the tragic events of 4 March 2005.
Shot in Rome and Morocco, 'Il Nibbio' had the special collaboration of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, with the support of the Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Esterna (Aise), the State Police, the Prefecture of Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Embassy in Morocco. The film was also supported by the Moroccan Film Centre.
For the occasion, the Italian Embassy in Rabat together with the Italian Institute of Culture will promote a master class on 'Il nibbio' on 10 April, during which actors Claudio Santamaria and Massimiliano Rossi, together with director Alessandro Tonda, will meet the students of the Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Cinema in Rabat.
