Deporting people undermines their
dignity, Pope Francis told US bishops on Tuesday.
The Pope, in a letter to the US bishops, harshly criticized US
President Donald Trump's immigration policy saying: "Deporting
people who in many cases have left their homeland for reasons of
extreme poverty, insecurity, exploitation, persecution or
serious deterioration of the environment, undermines the dignity
of many men and women, and of entire families".
He went on: "I have closely followed the great crisis that is
taking place in the United States, a properly formed conscience
cannot help but express a critical judgment and its own
disagreement".
Francis concluded: "I urge all the faithful of the Catholic
Church and all men and women of good will not to give in to
narratives that discriminate and cause needless suffering to our
migrant and refugee brothers and sisters".
