Giulio Regeni's mother Paola Deffendi
on Monday posted a photo of two cement pylons in Milan, one of
them bearing the words, in English and Italian, Truth for Giulio
Regeni, with the message "February 3, 2025...and it's been nine
years" since the Italian student's semi-naked body, bearing the
marks of a week of alleged torture by four Egyptian intelligence
officers, was found in a ditch on the Cairo-Alexandria highway
on February 3, 2016.
Defendi and Regen's father Claudio said Sunday they have called
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to testify at the Rome
trial in absentia of the four spies, in the hope he will give
them back their son's clothes and personal effects.
