A woman thought to be a German
tourist is dead and a man, probably her partner, is in a
critical condition in hospital after a fire broke overnight out
on a boat they were on in the Stella river at Palazzolo, in the
northeastern province Udine.
The man managed to get out of the boat and jump into the water
but the woman was trapped inside.
The fire brigade rescued him and he was taken to hospital in
Udine with serious burns.
Carabinieri police are investigating.
It is suspected that the fire may have been caused by a
short-circuit or gas-system malfunction.
